Desmolac ®

Desmolac linear polyurethanes without functional groups are especially intended for flexible, physically drying solvent base and topcoats for plastics. The hardness of these coatings is due to the interactions between the polymer molecules rather than the formation of a cross-linked network, which makes them very flexible. While most polyurethanes are reactive systems that require a hardener or crosslinker for the curing process, sensitive substrates require a non-functional or non-reactive flexible polyurethane system that cures by physical drying.

For flexible plastics, the coatings must protect the plastic substrate and be equally elastic. The adjustable flexibility of Desmolac PU binders makes them perfect for this job as they can be tailored for specific applications. Resins can also be used as auxiliary binders in coatings applied to other flexible substrates. On the other hand, adding a polyisocyanate such as Desmodur N75 is an effective way to increase the solvent resistance of coatings based on Desmolac physically drying binders. After application, it reacts with a mild cross-linking reaction with air humidity.
