DESMODUR ® Systems

Cast polyurethane elastomers based on Desmodur systems from Covestro Elastomers provide high abrasion and mechanical stress resistance and adjustable flexibility. They resist the effects of chemicals and oils, cutting, tearing, sliding and stretching, impacts and other stressful aspects. Desmodur systems also offer many combinations in terms of price-performance-workability ratio.

Covestro Elastomers prepolymers are specially designed using a wide range of available raw materials and state-of-the-art technologies. Careful selection of raw materials and production conditions play a key role in the final quality of polyurethane elastomers.

Basic features and characteristics

  • TDI system, including systems with low content of free TDI
  • MDI system, including unique amine cross-linked systems
  • A quasi-MDI system

  • Cold casting system
  • Rotational casting

Application and use

Covestro Elastomers products and systems (Desmodur and Baytec) are designed to meet the requirements of a wide range of demanding applications in many industries:

  • Sports and leisure
  • Oil and gas extraction
  • Mining – mines and quarries
  • Renewable energy
  • Automotive industry
  • Engineering industry
  • Material handling and transport
  • Printing industry
  • Steel and metallurgical industry

Processing

Numerous Desmodur polyurethane casting systems can be cast by hand, without a dosing machine. Obviously, the longer the processing time, the easier the processing. But experienced operators who have adapted equipment can successfully use systems with a processing time of around 2 minutes. Basic equipment for manual casting: scales, vacuum chamber, stirrer vessel and furnace (in case of hot casting systems).

Covestro Elastomers also manufactures Baulé casting machines, which are the most efficient tool for the successful production of cast polyurethane parts. All Baulé machines meet the requirements for the successful casting of polyurethane elastomers, which means reliable material preparation, precise dosing, optimal mixing technology and the highest possible process control.
