Basic features and characteristics
- Improving flexibility, elasticity and toughness
- Better adhesion between coatings and to the substrate (adhesives)
- Does not slow down curing
- Faster fort development
Desmocap Branched Aromatic Ether/Urethane Resins are extremely effective modifiers for epoxy coatings, adhesives and sealants. Although epoxy resins are used in a variety of protective coating and adhesive applications, they can be brittle if not modified or reinforced with flexible urethane prepolymers such as Desmocap.
Adding small amounts to an epoxy formulation improves the toughness of the formulation with minimal impact on the upper glass transition temperature of the polymer. A higher amount of additive improves adhesion to the surface and adhesion between coats. Desmocap products are polyoxypropylene glycol (POPG) and toluene diisocyanate (TDI) insoluble prepolymers blocked with alkylphenols or renewable cashew blocking agent (CNSL). They react with amine crosslinkers and epoxy resins to form hybrid epoxy-urethane polymers. The released blocking agent remains in the formulation and acts as an emollient.
