Decovery

Decovery is a series of resins based on plant (bio-based) materials. It is a new binder technology that replaces fossil components with renewable materials, reducing the ecological footprint without reducing the performance of the resins. Covestro’s Decovery portfolio is well-suited to formulating high-quality paints and coatings that meet the environmental requirements of the market – they contain low to zero volatile organic compounds (VOCs), yet can match or even outperform other renewable materials, e.g. starch.

All of our Decovery resins are partially made from plant sources such as bark and beans, which come from sustainable sources that do not compete with the food chain.

Basic features and characteristics

  • From sustainable sources (up to 52% organic materials)
  • Same or better performance than fossil alternatives
  • Low or no VOC content, minimal emissions
  • Self-networking (Decovery SP-6200 XP)
  • Barrier effect (Decovery SP-6000 XP)
  • For multiple substrates and printing layers (flexo printing and gravure printing)

Application and use

  • Basecoats
  • Decorative paints for exteriors and interiors, wall paints, varnishes
  • Coatings of wooden substrates and floor surfaces, outdoor fencing, window frames
  • Digital printing for high quality printing inks
  • Barrier coatings for flexible paper substrates in food and non-food applications (sandwich wrappers, tea envelopes, cardboard boxes)
